Star Local News – Four battle in Court No. 6 primary

From: Star Local News, ‘Four battle in Court No. 6 primary’

Terri Green

Terri Green said this year has been an exciting one for the primaries. With so many seats open, and many of the races having three or more candidates, she said no time in the primaries has been as exciting as it now for the voters.

“For me, it made it hard to decide what spot I wanted to run for,” Green said. “I also get to vote, and it has been a great learning experience.”

Green has viewed the campaign as a way to get to know potential judges in the area, judges she said will be in the courts beside her after the primaries are over.

“I enjoy getting out there and seeing who I am going to be serving with; I want to see who is going to be sitting next to me,” Green said. “If I don’t get out there and do my homework, how can I expect the citizens to do their homework?”

She hopes this homework will help lead more voters to the polls knowing what is at stake, with so many judge seats in the mix. She said this is the time for citizens to get out and make sure the judicial system in Collin County is truly representative of the county.

“Collin County is growing; I am sure the next census will probably show that,” Green said. “We need to work on preparing the courts for that growth, not be caught waiting to catch up.”

One of her strengths she said she has in accomplishing this is the additional specialized training to handle those people who are deemed mentally incapacitated. Green said with this training she would be able to work with those citizens who come before her with such disabilities and help find them treatment. This is, she hopes, so they no longer find their way back into trouble and return to the courts.

Another change she would like to make is creating a specialized drug court, one that would run at night.

“I would like to work with the commissioners on something like that; we need to be proactive,” Green said.

Green is currently a Plano teen court judge. With her criminal background in teen court, her civil law work stemming from 20 years as a trial lawyer and being licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, she said she will bring balance. She said while her opponents have tried to focus the campaign on just the criminal aspect side of the county courts, it takes experience in all three to be effective on the bench.

“I am not limited to just one of three areas,” Green said. “You want a judge with all areas of expertise.”

Welcome to my website!

Hi! My name is Terri Green and I am running for Judge–Collin County Court at Law #6. Our District Attorney, the Judge for the 219th State District Court, and the Judge for County Court at Law #3 have  announced they will not seek re-election.   Due to a recent appointment by the Governor, County Court at Law #4 is vacant  and the Judge in County Court # 6 has stepped down from his bench to run for District Attorney.  This is the bench that I am seeking. So, as you can see, there will be many new faces on the Judicial benches after the election!
